Send My Love (To Your New Lover) – Adele

So, my sister made me take a personality test, and I got the assertive protagonist: ENFJ. My strengths are receptive, reliable, and passionate, and my weaknesses are unrealistic, overly idealistic, and condescending. I decided to look up the ENFJ playlist on Spotify because why not. This song came up and I forgot how obsessed I was with it. I remember the first time I heard it I was at camp when my counselor played it on her speaker as I sat on the floor in front of the fan. The song stuck with me and I recently have been playing it a lot this summer. I think it stands out from the rest of Adele’s songs because it is more upbeat.

Behind the Lyrics:

In the song, Adele describes a relationship with a man who was making all the “big jumps” but in the end, not being able to commit to them. Instead of being angry, she tells him to treat his new lover better than he treated her and that she’s “forgiven it all” because she realizes he was a life lesson. Although he hurt her, she realized that this was a blessing in disguise because he showed his true colors and she knows she deserves better. I saw this phrase on TikTok that says “No girl can steal your man, they can only steal your problem,” which relates to this song because if he was loyal, he wouldn’t have left, therefore he was the problem. She is not mad just disappointed, singing “We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts, we both know we ain’t kids no more.”
