Bubble Toes – Jack Johnson

I absolutely LOVED this song when I was little. It reminds me of my sisters and me singing this in my Dad’s car on repeat (back when he had a Jeep). Our favorite line was “When she moved like a Jellyfish” I thought it was so silly and I can see little Lainie giggling at that line. I honestly forgot about Jack Johnson until high school when I randomly found “Banana Pancakes” and always played it. His music is so nostalgic in a way and also sort of calming.

Behind the Lyrics:

I think this song is so cute. It’s a love song dedicated to his wife. It’s about how Jack Johnson met his wife in college and how he is making fun of his wife’s big toes, which is why he gave her the nickname “Bubble Toes.” Okay, it’s honestly kind of funny because I would kill my husband if he wrote a song making fun of my feet. They both met at UC Santa Barba in the cafeteria, which is even in the song “Well I was eating lunch at the D.L.G. when this little girl came and she sat next to me.” Apparently, his wife was trying to avoid a creepy guy at the time, so she sat next to Jack to make it look like she was taken. Another interesting fact about the song is the “La da da da da da” part was supposed to be a place holder for words, but he never came up with lyrics to put there.
