“Life changes, you can’t stop it, just hop on the train.” This was one of the senior quotes that I used for my yearbook page, and I always loved the message behind this song. I remember the first time I heard it was actually when one of my friends was singing it to herself on her top bunk at camp. It was our spark year (rising sophomore in high school), and I asked her what song she was singing. It remained stuck in my head for the rest of the session and after camp, I couldn’t stop playing it. It is one of those songs that reminds me that everything happens for a reason and you cannot plan out your life perfectly. I have never been a control freak in the sense that I have always known what I want to do with my life, and if my ten-year plan doesn’t go perfectly, then I will freak out. However, I can tend to want to control the smaller things in my life such as events or activities. Sorry to anyone who has ever done Secret Santa with me. But this song serves as a reminder that if something doesn’t go as planned, it’s for a reason. As one of my friends would constantly quote this year: “You will never miss out on what is meant for you.” I believe this is so true. I think of all those God-sighting stories and weird coincidences that happen. Whenever I am frustrated by something insignificant, like being stuck in traffic, I think that there is a bigger meaning for this. Maybe the traffic was preventing me from being somewhere I wasn’t supposed to be. I feel like I always hear those stories that are like if I had been two minutes earlier I would’ve gotten hit by a bus or been in a freak accident. I don’t know, but my point is that things are going to happen that you could never expect and sometimes, you have to go with the flow and understand there’s a greater purpose. A quote by Maya Angelou that I really love and try to live by is “If there’s something you don’t like, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
Behind the Lyrics:
Thomas Rhett speaks about how his life has changed over the years and looking back, he wouldn’t change a thing. He lived a normal life never thinking anyone would buy his music, but then ended up becoming a famous country singer. When he and his wife couldn’t get pregnant, they decided to adopt, and once they adopted, she got pregnant. Although none of these events that occurred were planned, he wouldn’t go back and do anything differently.
