WESTWORLD – EVAN GIIA

Confession: When I was in high school, I used to stalk people on Spotify. Mostly my friends, but when I wanted new music, I would go to their profile and see what they were listening to. I found this song on one of my sister’s camp friends’ profiles and quickly fell in love with it. Although the song was popular for a moment, I feel like it still isn’t as well-known as it should be. I found this song at the beginning of my sophomore year before I had my license, but I couldn’t wait until I could drive around and blast this song. To no one’s surprise, I love looking up the lyrics to a song and understanding what they mean. I remember discovering I was singing all the words wrong, and even with the right lyrics, I still couldn’t grasp the meaning of the song.

Behind the Lyrics:

This song was released through ODESZA’s foreign family collection. In an interview, EVAN GIIA explained: “I really want my music to get people out of their own heads. It’s a big theme in my live show too: being totally present in the room with me and letting the rest of the world melt away so you can move and dance and forget about everything else for a while.” Maybe this is why I could not grasp the meaning behind the song because this is not a song I am supposed to relate to or understand. Instead, you are supposed to listen and escape to this “WESTWORLD.”
