This is one of those songs that when I hear it, I am immediately reminded of a low point in my life. I hope that you haven’t experienced this, but do you know when you’re in a relationship, and you can tell someone is pulling away? And there’s nothing you can do to stop it because you don’t want to be seen as annoying or clingy. It is the worst feeling and you feel so alone. This song found me right when I was experiencing this in my life and explained exactly how I felt. I remember absolutely sobbing to this song. Harry puts it into words so perfectly that moment when you know a relationship has died but you don’t want it to and feel so hopeless because you don’t know what more there is to do. When you have outgrown a relationship, whether that’s romantic or friendship, and realize that now you are both carcasses of who you were or simply “Two Ghosts.”
Behind the Lyrics:
Although people like to theorize that this song is about his falling out with Taylor Swift (some even say it could be about Louis), Harry never confirmed or denied these allegations because he likes to let the listeners interpret his music in whatever way they choose. However, in a BBC interview, he stated that the lyrics are pretty “self-explanatory” and that “the song is about change – how people change and grow apart. Some people who would have meant the world to you one day could be a ghost in some time. It is the Universal Law of Change.”
